I’m proud that I have always stuck by Pant! As a Dhoni fan I was always on the lookout for his replacement and in 2017 that happened, he was phenomenal! Even during his tough times I never turned against him like many “fans” of him who only like him now because of his recent innings. Also Chennai (Dhoni’s second home) was the only stadium that didn’t heckle Pant and that’s something that other fans need to learn from the “knowledgeable Chennai crowd”!

He has been under the scope from the beginning....taking over Dhoni's position is definitely hard and hence Pant had to struggle with it. Now he is accepted and hence proving himself and therefore must not be compared with Dhoni.
Last day of Gabba Test, Pant proved who he is. The best batsmen of the world Kohili, Kane Williamson, Steve Smith or Joe Root might not have done it the way Pant did (with due respect to all of them). He is a match winner. Let us understand, it is not a T20 or one day match, but the last day of the test and the pitch condition will not offer any support for scoring that much of runs. It needs a special talent to take the team to victory. In Sydney test also Australia was dominating till Pant came to bat and he put Australia in the back foot and made 97 runs. Austalia might have won that test had Pant not played that crucial knock.

Ever since Pant came into limelight, his batting had ups and downs and one felt that with practice and passage of time he will improve his batting. Batting was not the main concern. His wicket keeping is/was. His wicket keeping was atrociously bad, but happy to acknowledge that in recent Chennai test his reflexes and catching were far superior and of test class. He did miss a few, but there has been a big improvement. Hope that continues.
